Power of Prayer

Driving for Uber is my hobby, but the LORD is my passion, but sometimes they intersect and that is when the Holy Spirit takes over…

One Thursday afternoon, I got a request to pick up a passenger at the far west side of town. As I drove down this long gravel road, I noticed a young woman sitting on some concrete steps. She arose and walked toward my car. I couldn’t help noting that she was very distraught and crying. Once in the car, I asked her what was wrong. She replied, “he took all of my money.” I replied, “who took your money?” and she responded, “the guy in the house.” I continued to probe by asking, “do you want me to call the police or knock on the door?” Her reply was, “no, just go.” Asking again, “did he hurt you.,” her response again, “no, just go.”

So, we left and during the ride she poured out all of her emotions from being kicked out of her mother and father’s house at an early age to using drugs and finding unfavorable ways to pay for the drugs. When asked if she had any family or friends that could help her, same reply as before, “no.” She did have a boyfriend, but that fell apart recently. It was quite obvious she had it rough and was hopeless. In addition to all of that, she was having severe back pains. Here too I asked if I could take her to the hospital, same response- “no.”

We finally arrived at the spot she was staying and as she got out, I asked if I could pray for her. Her response this time, was “yes,” and I liked that very much. So, we prayed by asking our LORD to give her the strength to overcome the demons that she was dealing with and more importantly, to provide someone who would give her support and friendship. She walked away into the low rent hotel. PRAYER SENT.

The very next day in the late afternoon, I received a request to pick someone up at the industrial park north of town. A young man approached my car and got in. I greeted him and asked him how his day was and if he had plans for the weekend. His response was,” it was a terrible week, and I don’t want to see anyone.” When asked what was so wrong, he replied he had a bad breakup with his girlfriend and couldn’t understand what went wrong with her. Elaborating on the situation, he said that they dated for 5-6 weeks, and everything was great. They even took a weekend trip together, but within the last week and a half she got weird and paranoid, so he broke the relationship off.

As I drove, he asked me if I could make a quick stop so he could pick up some food. I did so and after he returned to my car, he explained that the night before he made a decision to look after his once girlfriend and make sure she gets the help she needs. In fact, the food was for her.

Our next stop was the site where she lived, and it was no surprise to me because over the months I had dropped off numerous riders there. In fact, I had dropped off someone there the previous day. He exited the car and walked toward the hotel and as he did so, the same young woman I prayed for yesterday came up to him. He handed her the sack of food, gave her a hug, and returned to the car.

My heart was pounding with joy. Once in the car, I immediately told him that she had been my passenger yesterday and her condition was poor both physically and emotionally. He responded by telling me that last night he felt compelled to look after her and in fact they made a visit to the hospital to have her back checked out.

PRAYER ANSWERED.

Now for those who would say this is a coincidence, I say, “Really!” How else was God going to let me know that He answered my prayer?
