Thanks for Asking

Jim is a retired aviator, scientist, and part-time rancher. As a scientist, he was slow to believe, but after years of exposure to the overwhelming evidence of God’s/Christ’s existence, he was finally persuaded. He tells this story which made his belief even stronger.

On a Friday in 2008, our daughter called – in tears. She had just left a highly regarded ophthalmologist practice, to which she had taken our 12-year-old granddaughter Nicole. “Cole” had recently confessed poor sight in one eye, thus prompting the appointment. It was difficult for our daughter to speak. She managed to say the doctor found a prominent tumor on the optic nerve behind that eye. He told them to come back Monday. The optic nerve specialist would be in to take over the case.

After hanging up, I dropped to my knees to pray healing for Cole. I feared any surgery would be delicate brain surgery. Over the weekend hundreds prayed. Our daughter was closely associated with two large churches.

Come Monday, she calls with joy in her voice. The specialist had taken them into the same room and used the same equipment. The tumor was gone. Everyone was surprised, especially the two doctors, and celebrations spread throughout the practice.

The always reserved Cole was not surprised. Sometime over the weekend, she had noticed restoration of her vision. And by the way, it remains so today for this precious civil engineer.

After the call, I again dropped to my knees — this time to thank The Lord.

Immediately afterwards, I “heard” a loving response. It blew me away. That response was: “Thanks for Asking.”
