Virginia’s Mystical Experience
My name is Virginia. I am a mother of seven children and a devoted wife of 62 years. I had a spiritual encounter some years ago that I want to share with you. In the year 1985, I was asked to put together a “Pancake Breakfast” for our church. The day came when many within the community came out to enjoy the good food and fellowship with one another.
As people came to eat, a man entered the social hall. He was clothed in shattered attire and seemed to be homeless. He uttered no words and seemed lost in so many ways. I greeted this man and escorted him to a table. People approached me and asked that we urge this gentleman to leave. I quickly responded, “In the Bible, it states, to feed the hungry and no way will I turn this man away.” I quickly went into the kitchen and got him a plate of food along with a hot cup of coffee. In addition to the breakfast, I also gave him extra food to go, as I did not know when his next meal would be. As this man was leaving, he raised his head, and gave me a smile. I knew, he was saying, “Thank you.” I never knew what happened to this man, until the year 1991, which was six years later.
In that year, 1991, my husband became extremely ill and was rushed to the hospital with a perforated bowel. He was in critical condition. He was in surgery for twelve and a half hours, and the doctors said he was dying. I waited hours in the ICU waiting room with no sleep or anything to drink or eat and was totally exhausted. I was the only one in the ICU room at the time and a knock came to the door. I opened it immediately, and there stood this same man, the man I had given food to six years ago. He was dressed in the same shattered clothes and stood there handing me a cup of coffee. His eyes met mine, and I knew God had given me an angel sent from heaven. I knew that my husband was going to be okay. Within moments, the man disappeared, and I was in total shock at what had just happened.
A short time thereafter, the surgeon came to the ICU waiting room to inform me that my husband, after twelve and a half hours in surgery had survived and would be okay. I smiled at the doctor and said, “I know, for Jesus has been walking beside me.”
“God be with you.”
